Chloë Galea is an alumni from Leeds College of Art where she studied Graphic Design and graduated in 2011. Chloë is currently based in Berlin after moving from London 3 years ago. She specialises in print-based design, screen-based design, art direction, branding and identity and publication and editorial design. After university, she had an internship at Pencil Studio where she did print and content for branding and later started working for them for 2 and a half years.
She left London in 2013 and moved to Berlin and became a freelance designer where she mostly does branding and has had clients such as Cath Kidston, Jack Wills, Anthropologie, The White Company as well as other luxury brands. Chloë also works part-time at a studio called Cee Cee Creative where she works 3 days a week. The latest design work she had shown us from the studio is 'The Neighbourhood Map' which is a map guiding you to the best shops, bars and restaurants.
She said that when she was moving to Berlin, she had meetings with current clients to tell them that she was moving and that the internet is important to keep in contact with people from the UK such as potential clients along with fellow designers. Chloë has also said that Behance has helped her since it allows people to find her as a designer in the city therefore, it helps her as a freelancer.
She had told us that once she left university, people used to ask her and have an idea that she would do work for free. She said that if they don't give you a contract or an agreement or cash upfront, then don't design anything until you see some form reassurance that you will get paid or recognised by the end of it. She said that working with suppliers are difficult since there is a language barrier there but she is also attending German school every week.
